At Tenthaus Gallery
Hanging Garden dwelled ten days at the gallery rooms of Tenthaus, to journey around graveyards of Oslo, on air at InterFM, online, at P1 in Hersleb Schoolyard, into Boksen, and back. In its lifetime, the program metabolized exhibition, workshop, radio broadcast, screening, performance and participation in Oslo Kulturnatt.
Gardening transmutation in different depths, pixelated personhood, and venues of various institutional imagination. Prompts to participate in cross-pollinating practices and creep methodology. In stillness, listening to transitions. Music to deadline to is made tangible, as in cremating. In the Hanging Garden, no one sleeps.
The exhibition presented the following projects:
THE NECROMANTIC KITCHEN
Annike Flo + Lexie Owen
Thinking back to a time when death and dying were domestic processes, when death was always a guest in our houses, Necromantic Kitchen connects the metabolic action of decomposition with human digestion and everyday kitchen magic — fermentation, and other transformative food processes such as butter churning. The installation was activated by workshops. The artists also hosted an interdisciplinary wander at the local graveyard titled Walking with Death.
TRACE
Hirendran Sivaganam
Photographs of life and memory fold into one another, tracing the self in fragments of light and time. Through shifting tiles, the seen becomes the seer, and identity shimmers between image and abstraction.
JOY AND YOU
Frederikke Jul Vedelsby
In this new body of work, moving across drawing and video, two grandmothers talk on the phone for the first time in a century. The retired actress Joy and her medium You together sew a stitch in time, revealing the mystery and beauty of communication.
